Kangra Shaili Painting
Kangra Shaili, or Kangra School of Painting, is a traditional style of miniature painting that originated in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh. Known for its delicate and intricate depictions, the style often portrays religious themes, especially the divine love story of Radha and Krishna. The paintings are marked by soft colors, graceful lines, and emotional depth, capturing love, longing, and devotion.
The use of natural pigments results in vibrant yet soft hues, with backgrounds featuring lush landscapes, rivers, and mountains. The style blends influences from Mughal and Rajput traditions, combining precise figures with ornamental elements. Kangra paintings are also recognized for their portrayal of Krishna's divine dance (Rasa Lila) and his interactions with the gopis.
In 2013, Kangra paintings were granted the **Geographical Indication (GI) tag**, helping to preserve this cultural heritage. The tradition continues today, with artists creating works that celebrate divine love and nature.
